BOTA-NOM : A Botanical nomenclature management

Last modified by Cyril Boillat on 17/08/2026

In Botalista.Software (BLS), the BOTA-NOM module centralises the management of taxonomic names and cultivars used within your collections.

It acts as Botalista's name reference: names managed in BOTA-NOM can then be used throughout the different application modules, including acquisitions, cultivated collections, seed lots and herbarium specimens.

Video tutorial

To discover how BOTA-NOM works, we recommend starting with the video tutorial:

Name management [Watch the video tutorial]

The video introduces the main features of the module and the recommended workflow for searching, viewing and managing names in Botalista.

Prerequisites

The user must have, at minimum, read access to the BOTA-NOM module.

User roles and permissions are described in the BOTA-USR documentation.

Module principles

BOTA-NOM is used to centralise and structure the names used throughout Botalista, providing a consistent name reference for all collections.

The module can be used to:

  • search and view existing names;
  • manage taxonomic names and their associated information;
  • manage cultivars;
  • create or edit names according to the user's permissions;
  • use these names throughout the other Botalista modules.

For a practical introduction to these features and the recommended workflow, please refer to the video tutorial above.
